DRESS REGULATIONS (HQ)

WEARING OF ST JOHN AMBULANCE UNIFORM

No deviation from sealed patterns of uniform, clothing, equipment and badges is allowed.
SJAM badges are protected by law under the St John Ambulance of Malaysia (Incorporation) Act 1971. No person other than the St John Councl of Malaysia or a person autho rizd in writing to do so by the St John Council of Malaysia shall sell or expose for sale any badge, token or emblem specially adopted for use by SJAM member. Persons are not entitled tp wear them or use them for unauthorized or commercial purposes.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
ENTITLEMENT TO WEAR UNIFORM
Uniform may only be worn by personnel who has successfully completed the Induction Programme and achieved the minimum qualification required. New entrant Members holding a First Aid or Nursing Certificate may wear the SJAM uniform.

MANNER OF WEARING
All uniform must be worn correctly, smartly, with pride and in accordance with these Dress Regulations.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE
The face is to be clean, make is to be discreet, men's moustache or beard are to be trimmed and tidy.

Hair is to be clean, trimmed and tidy and is not to fall over the line of the top of the collar. Long hair is to be neatly gathered up under the head-dress, suitably arranged to allow correct position of the head-dress.

Hands must be clean, with short clean fingernails and without nail varnish of any kind.

MIXED DRESS
Uniform and plain (civilian) clothes are never to be worn mixed except when the latter item are expressly, permitted with uniform (e.g. black shoes etc).

Emergency Exception. When, due to an emergency, there is no time to dress in complete uniform,personnel should wear the most appropriate form of identification, i.e an armlet (on the left upper arm), reflective slip-over or SJAM head-dress etc.

CONDITION
All items of uniform must be clean and good repair, garments must be correctly pressed,shoes and other accouterments must be clean and, where appropriate, well polished.

BADGES
Only SJAM badges as authorized in these regulations are to be worn with SJAM uniform. They must be correctly positioned as laid down in Chapter 8 and flashed neatly either by stitching, pinning or clipping as appropriate. 

Rank Badges - Rank badges are to be worn according to current or acting rank, as appropriate.
Rank Slides - Cloth Rank Slides, as appropriate to rank, must be worn on shoulder straps stitched on the
Duty Uniform.
State/Regional Shoulder Badges - State/regional identification shoulder badges are to be worn.
Other Organization's Badges - Certain badges may be worn on SJAM uniform with the approval of the Commander-in-Chief. Members of In-House Divisions may wear the logo of their establishments on the uniform.

JEWELLERY
With the exception of wedding rings, jewellery of any kind is not to be worn.

HEAD-DRESS
When uniform is worn out of doors, on duties, on public transport and other occasions  the appropriate head-dress is to be worn. 

Beret - All Officers (male and female) are allowed to wear Beret for Uniform 2.
Peak Cap/Bowler's Hat - Used for activity or formal events i.e seminar, meeting etc.
Adult members are to use the beret and silver buttons for their uniform but plain epaulettes.
Female members - Female headgear or mini tudung or soft white material and tucked into the uniform collar without headgear.
Female Officers - Black Bowler's Hat or Black mini tudung and tucked into the uniform collar with Black Bowler's Hat.

ORDER OF DRESS
Personnel of either sex will, when on duty, be in the same Order of Dress.

MEDAL RIBBONS
The appropriate ribbons of authorized decorations and medals are to be worn 10mm (7/16 inch) deep, in rows of four on the left breast.

SAFETY
For safety, when in uniform after dark or in otherwise poor visibility, slip-over or other similarly visible item may be worn.

GLOVES
When the white gloves are not being worn, they are to be out of sight and carried in the pocket or pouch. Gloves are not to be carried tucked into a belt or the shoulder straps. When gloves are worn, they need not be removed for shaking hands.

Adults and Cadets members can wear during Parade and Foot-drill Competitions but ensure all of them wear it.


ORDER OF DRESS AND DETAILS
ORDER OF DRESS
The following Order of Dress only, are authorized for wear by SJAM personnel. All personnel at one place of duty or assembly should be dressed in similar Order of Dress.

"A" uniform - Ceremonial Dress
To be worn for inspections, investitures, parades and similar formal ceremonial events. This constitutes the highest degree of formal dress for officers and presidents. Medals must be worn.

Adult members are allowed to wear Ceremonial Dress and Mess Kit but not compulsory.

"B" uniform - Public Duty Order
To be worn, and is designed to facilitate, efficient performance of public First Aid and Nursing duties. (note. The State/Regional/Area Commander or senior officer organizing a duty may order special items of uniform to be worn when appropriate).

Adult members will wear the Duty Uniform with silver buttons but plain epaulettes.

Special Duties Order
May only be worn when authorized by the Officer/Member-in-Charge, when involved in duties which make other uniform inappropriate. To be used when formal uniform is unsuitable on non-ceremonial accasions (e.g. informal phases of conferences, meetings, training, welfare, escort and transport duties). It may be worn as protection from weather and/or hazards (e.g. motor racing, scrambles, outdoor exercises etc) and also when specifically ordered for special reasons for public Duties. Resources to wearing this uniform which, although less formal, is not to be taken as a means to reduce standards of appearance. (This Order of Dress must not be worn on Nursing duties).

St John T-Shirt - Training Order
To be worn for any occasions when informal uniform dress is appropriate (i.e. for committees, training days, weekly, meetings, disasters etc) except when an alternative higher Order of Dress is ordered. This constitute the normal casual uniform for all routine at Divisions. An 200mm (8 inch) SJAM crest must be printed at the back of the T-shirt. NCO's will wear miniature rank chevrons on their right wrists. Men Officers will use the St Ambulance Peak Caps while the Lady Officers will wear their St John Ambulance Bowler's Hat.

MATERIAL FOR UNIFORMS
The material for all uniforms (except St John Juniors) will be polyester Cotton which consists of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. It is twill woven suiting material of 6 oz. to 8 oz. per square foot. It should not be transparent. Please note that the order trade names for polyester are Dacron, Tetron, Trevira, Terylene, etc.

CHEVRONS
All Rank Chevrons, miniature rank chevrons as well as Service Chevrons must only be purchased from the St John Ambulance Supplies.

NAME TAGS
Name Tags must be worn by all ranks. In case of Officers, they must be worn on Duty Uniform only.

No name tags will be worn on Ceremonial Uniforms or on Mess Kits. The length of name tag must be between 64mm (2.5 inches) to 90mm (3.25 inches) while the width must be 20mm (0.75 inch).

In case of Female Adult and Female Cadets, it will be worn 130mm (5 inches) from the centre of the shoulder line on the right.

GORGET PATCHES
Gorget patches are worn only by Officers as listed below. Full size gorget patches on Ceremonial uniform. Miniature gorget patches on Duty Uniform only. The gorget patches are to be in line with the bottom of the collar.

Officers of Rank Marking 8 and above
T/C - Black cloth gorget patch of approved design, silver thread embroidered St John Wort, in centre, edged with 3mm (1/8 inch) wide silver thread braid. Small silver button at top.

Divisional Presidents
T/A - Black cloth gorget patch of approved design. One 3mm (1/8 inch) wide silver thread braid down centre, edged with 3mm (1/8 inch) wide silver thread braid. Small silver button at top.

COLLAR BADGES
Collar badges are worn by all male adult members and male and female officers of Rank Marking and below.

POSITIONING OF BADGES (ADULTS AND OFFICERS)
NAME STRIPS
The name strips for Presidents, Doctors, Nurses etc. will be worn on both arms below the shoulder flashes.

NAME TAGS
Name Tags must be worn by all ranks. In case of Officers, they must be worn on Duty Uniform only. It should be worn in line with the top of right pocket.

In the case of Female Cadets, it will be worn 130mm (5 inches) from the centre of the shoulder line on the right.

ADULT NURSING BADGE
The Adult Nursing Badge is worn only by men who have passed the Adult Nursing Examination. On long sleeves, it is to be worn 150mm (6 inches) from the bottom of the left sleeve. On short sleeves, it is to be worn 150mm (6 inches) from the bottom of the left sleeve. On short sleeves, it is to be worn 40mm (1.5 inches) above the edge of the left sleeve.

GRAND PRIOR'S BADGE
The Grand Prior's Badge should be worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow on the left arm. When  the Service Chevron is also worn, the Grand Prior's Badge will be worn above the Service Chevron.

RANK CHEVRONS
The Rank Chevrons should be worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow of the right arm.

SECRETARY BADGE
The Secretary's badge should be worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow of the right arm. When Rank Chevrons are also worn, the Secretary's badge should be above the Rank Chevrons.

STOREKEEPER'S BADGE
The Storekeeper's badge should be worn midway between the shoulder and the elbow of the right arm. When Rank Chevrons are also worn, the  Storekeeper's badge should be above the Rank Chevrons.

MEDALLION
The Medallion is to be worn by Female Adults or Lady Officers only. The Medallion is worn round the neck strung to a black thread.

AIR ATTENDANT'S BADGES
The Full Wings are worn on the Forage Cap, St John Ambulance Peak Cap or on Bowler's Hat when on air duty only. The Half Wing is worn at other times 25mm (1 inch) above the left pocket or 13mm (0.5 inch) above the medals whichever is applicable.

TRAINER'S BADGE
The Trainer's Badge is worn 25mm (1 inch) above the right pocket or 13mm (0.5 inch) above the name tag.

SERVICE CHEVRON
The Service Chevron will be worn on the left arm, midway between the shoulder and the elbow. Service Chevrons will be worn by Privates only. After the award of the Service Medal, Service Chevrons will no longer be worn.

MEDAL RIBBONS
Medal ribbons are worn on Duty Uniform only. The bottom row of ribbons is to be in line with the top of the left pocket.

PROFICIENCY BADGES
The Proficiency Badges are to be worn on three rows on the left arm, 25mm (1 inch) below the name of the State. The Proficiency Badges can be worn until the age of 21 years and must not be worn after the award of the Grand Prior's Badge.

SPECIAL SERVICE SHIELD
The Special Service Shield is worn above the right pocket. The bottom of the badge should be 13mm (0.5 inch) above the name tag.

CADET LEADER'S STRIPES
The Cadet Leader's Stripes are worn on both shoulders, at the bottom of the shoulder straps.

CADET POCKET BADGE
The Cadet Pocket Badge is worn in the centre of the left pocket. In the case of female cadets, the top of the badge should be 127mm (5 inch) from the centre of the shoulder line on the left.

ST JOHN JUNIORS
St John Juniors Badge worn with the forage cap. Junior's Star Awards worn on the centre of the right pocket.

SERVICE STRIPES AND STARS
1st Year - One black-and-white Stripe worn horizontally with point to front 40mm (1.5 inches) from the bottom of the left sleeve.
2nd Year - Two black-and-white Stripes, the second above and touching the first.
3rd Year - One Service Star, with centre of Star 40mm (1.5 inches) from the bottom of the left sleeve.
4th Year - One Service Star and one black-and-white Stripe directly above the Service Star.
5th Year - Two Service Stars, one directly above the other.
6th Year - Two Service Stars and one black-and-white Stripe directly above the Service Stars.
7th Year - Three Service Stars.

LANYARDS
Lanyards are worn over the left shoulder by Cadet NCO's only.

FUNERAL CEREMONIES
The Ceremonial Uniform with a 75mm (3 inches) wide black armband on the left arm and medals is worn during the funerals of officers of Rank marking 7 and above, Assistant Ministers and above and to those entitled to a State funeral.

SHOULDER FLASHES
Officers - The top of the Shoulder Flash is to be 25mm (1 inch) from the seam of the shoulder.
Other Ranks - The top of the Shoulder Flash is to touch the seam.

HAIR STYLE FOR LADIES
The hair should be plaited and neatly tucked in.

No pony tail. A bun would be proper for very long hair.

UNIFORM FOR UNDERGRADUATES FOR UNIVERSITIES AND TEACHER-TRAINEES
The undergraduates of Universities and the teacher-trainees in the Teachers' Training Colleges will wear the Duty Uniform for Officers with silver buttons but plain epaulettes.

For heargear, will use Beret will Adult Cap Badge.

PAKAIAN SERAGAM

Terdapat tiga jenis pakaian seragam yang dipakai untuk pelbagai acara.

Uniform nombor 1 - Pakaian upacara rasmi

Uniform nombor 2 - Pakaian bertugas dan kawad kaki

Uniform nombor 3 - Pakaian mess/rasmi

Uniform nombor 2 sering kali digunakan. Kadang kala ves keselamatan berwarna kuning atau hijau dikenakan di atas pakaian nombor dua untuk tujuan keselamatan dan pemudahcam. Terdapat dua jenis beret untuk ahli dengan pangkat Pegawai. Beret digunakan semasa bertugas manakala Peaked Cap (lelaki) dan Bowler's Hat (perempuan) digunakan selain daripada waktu bertugas.

Kadet-kadet divisi ambulans dan perawatan perlu memakai uniform nombor 2 setiap hari Rabu, acara kawad kaki dan ketika bertugas.
            
UNIFORM KADET AMBULANS LELAKI       
Kemeja putih wajib dimasukkan ke dalam seluar hitam.
Strap bahagian bahu perlu dijahit di hadapan garisan lengan dan disertakan dua butang hitam kecil. Bahagian atas strap perlu menyentuh kelim bahu.
Empat butang hitam besar diletakkan di bahagian hadapan. Jarak antara butang hendaklah di antara 65 hingga 100mm (2.5 hingga 4 inci) dan bersesuaian dengan ukuran badan.
Dua poket dengan penutup beserta dua butang hitam kecil dilekapkan di bahagian dada kemeja.
Lencana poket perlu ditempatkan di bahagian tengah poket sebelah kiri.
Singlet putih perlu dikenakan di sebelah dalam kemeja.
Tag nama perlu di letakkan di atas poket sebelah kanan.
Lencana Grand Prior perlu diletakkan di tengah-tengah antara bahu dan siku sebelah kiri.
Lencana-lencana kecekapan perlu ditempatkan dalam tiga baris di lengan sebelah kiri, 25mm (1 inci) di bawah lencana bahu. 
Lencana kecekapan boleh terus dikenakan oleh kadet yang bertukar ke divisi dewasa sehingga berumur 21 tahun.
Lencana-lencana kecekapan tidak perlu dipamerkan selepas dianugerahkan Lencana Grand Prior.
Lencana Special Service Shield perlu ditempatkan di atas poket kanan dengan jarak 13mm (0.5 inci) antara bahagian bawah lencana dan tag nama.
Lencana Cadet Leader's Strip perlu dipakai di kedua-dua lengan betul-betul di bawah lencana bahu.
Lencana Rank Chevron perlu dipakai di bahagian tengah antara bahu dan siku sebelah kanan. tempatkan lencana ini di bawah lencana Setiausaha dan Penjaga Stor.
Lencana Setiausaha dan Penjaga Stor perlu dipakai di bahagian tengah antara bahu dan siku sebelah kanan.
Tali penyandang/lanyard hitam hanya boleh dipakai di sebelah bahu kiri oleh kadet yang bergelar Pegawai Tidak Bertauliah.




     
 UNIFORM KADET PERAWATAN PEREMPUAN
 (juga terdapat baju berlengan panjang untuk kadet bertudung)
Lencana poket perlu ditempatkan di bahagian hadapan dada sebelah kiri.
Aturan pemakaian lencana adalah sama seperti uniform kadet ambulans lelaki.
Sekiranya bertudung, kadet harus memakai baju yang berlengan panjang dan tidak boleh mengenakan penutup lengan bersama-sama dengan baju berlengan pendek.


 UNIFORM AHLI DEWASA PEREMPUAN
 (juga terdapat baju berlengan panjang untuk kadet bertudung)


SELUAR SLACK HITAM LELAKI DAN PEREMPUAN
Seluar panjang hitam polos berzip hadapan potongan lurus sahaja yang dibenarkan.
Ukur lilit bahagian bawah kaki seluar tidak boleh melebihi 480mm (19 inci).
Tujuh gelung tali pinggang perlu ada di bahagian pinggang seluar.
Panjang seluar mesti 25mm (1 inci) daripada tanah berserta dengan kasut.
Perlu ada dua poket tepi dan dua poket belakang berpenutup yang dilekapkan menggunakan butang hitam kecil.

FORAGE CAP LELAKI
Lencana topi perlu diletakkan di sebelah kiri, 25mm (1 inci) dari bahagian atas dan 75mm (3 inci) dari tepi ke bahagian tengah lencana.
Hanya kadet ambulans yang perlu mengenakan forage cap.
Pemakaian dua pin perlu di bahagian hadapan sebelah bawah cap.





  NURSING CAP PEREMPUAN
Lencana cap perlu diletakkan di bahagian tengah sebelah hadapan cap.
Cap perlu dipakai di bahagian atas sebelah hadapan kepala dan dikenakan di atas tudung kadet yang bertudung.
Hanya kadet perawatan yang perlu mengenakan nursing cap.



TOPI PEREMPUAN 
Digunakan oleh ahli perempuan dewasa.



BERET
Dipakai oleh ahli dewasa lelaki dan perempuan.



LENCANA BERET DEWASA
Dikenakan di bahagian hadapan beret dan topi perempuan.

LENCANA NURSING CAP PEREMPUAN

TALI PENYANDANG/LANYARD

TALI PINGGANG
Tali pinggang hitam nilon 30mm (1.2 inci) dengan gancu berukir logo St John Ambulans Malaysia yang sama seperti lencana kolar.


LENCANA KOLAR
Dikenakan di bahagian penjuru kolar sebelah bawah di bahagian hadapan baju.

LENCANA POKET
Hanya perlu dikenakan oleh kadet ambulans dan perawatan. Ahli Divisi Dewasa tidak perlu meletakkan lencana ini di bahagian poket kiri.

BUTANG BESAR DAN KECIL WARNA HITAM UNTUK BAJU
Butang ini hanya dipakai oleh kadet ambulans sahaja.



TAG NAMA
Berlatar belakangkan warna hitam dan ukiran nama berwarna putih.



BUTANG WARNA PERAK UNTUK BAJU
Butang ini hanya dipakai oleh ahli lelaki dan perempuan dewasa.


LENCANA LENGAN



STOKING HITAM
Hanya stoking hitam polos yang dibenarkan.



KASUT HITAM
Hanya kasut hitam bertali yang dibenarkan.
Kasut mesti dikilatkan untuk semua jenis acara.



KEMEJA-T 
Hanya boleh dipakai ketika tugasan luar berbentuk fizikal, kursus atau latihan kawad kaki.


LAIN-LAIN
Pakaian seragam hanya boleh dikenakan oleh kadet yang telah lulus Program Induksi dan lulus Kursus Asas Pertolongan Cemas ataupun Kursus Pertolongan Cemas Dewasa.
Pemakaian barang kemas dan jam tangan adalah dilarang.
Pemakaian topi hendaklah bersesuaian dengan aktiviti ataupun acara yang disertai.
Tudung warna putih polos harus dimasukkan ke dalam baju bagi kadet perempuan yang bertudung.
Tudung warna hitam polos harus dimasukkan ke dalam baju bagi ahli dewasa yang bertudung.

That he may, without thoughtless questions, learn the signs and symptoms and history of the case, and secure the confidence of the patients and bystanders.

RESOURCE - SUMBER
